Spiffy New Design

Hi Folks, Just completed the new site design I have been promising/threatening for a while now.

In addition just getting a new look going I addressed many issues from the buggy menus to the thing I always wondered: “If the Kusanagi colours are black and green, why the heck is everything blue?”

As is usual, the new site is best viewed with Firefox at a 1024 X 768 resolution. Not to say it won’t work with Internet Exploder, but there are many small to medium differences in he way the pages display in IE, and it looks much better in FF. And besides, Internet Exploder is a piece of shit (yes, even Version 7). You’re better off with Firefox, or Opera, or Netscape, or something other than it.</rant>

Now that I have that baggage unloaded I will get back to posting stories soon. I’m still rebuilding all my sites, but since this is the general theme I will be using, only content is going to be a challenge on them.

The Hotaru no Hikari Firelog is temporarily down because it was screwed up. I am currently building the
replacement Firelog. But until it is up I’ll post updates here!

Update: Everything is peachy now!

“Okay…” You’re probably thinking to yourself, “He puts this stuff here for me to read and now he says not to read it. Is he smoking lawn fertilizer?” Well, maybe. But I do have a reason for saying this.

Lately the number of inconsistencies and continuity gaps between the earlier stories and the recent ones has become too painfully heinous for me to brush off any longer. So I am currently going through the stories correcting those errors, and doing some other rewrites to better bring the earlier stories up to speed. It’s given me the chance to kill some concepts I didin’t like or I abandoned along the way. Or just present things in better ways I have found or developed.

“How much are you going to change things after this?” You may ask. Nothing. The series as it is going into the final story of this arc is how it will be for the rest of the run. The early stories were written before I had the idea fully developed. Now after these long years, I have things where I can say I’m ready to go forth with this madness.

If you do read them now, or you have read them already, be advised these changes will be made sometime before the end of the year. More so in the first half of them. The story itself doesn’t change much, but I wanted to shake out the silliness before I buckle down and tackle Triptych.

Thanks for sticking around, I’ll update the whole works as soon as I can. Definitely before the New Year, I promise!

Holy Shit!!

Well, I have FINALLY released the latest HnH installment “Tears For the Past”. It has been a fuckuva long time coming, but I finally have it done. Not that the bulk of the story took long to write, like it did with “Memorial”. Rather this time I started it, left it aside near the beginning, then picked it up sometime later and wrote the rest in a short span.

I think the time off did me some good. It was a rather productive break this time. I explored my ambitions for writing, assessed where I stood as I writer, identified my strengths and weaknesses, and then experimented with other material before coming back to finish this story. One last experiment remains before I start the Finale of this arc. I am going to finish the commentaries for all the stories. I am going to spend time not only analyzing the stories like I have done previously, but also critiquing my work quite thouroghly.

I may not always be very nice about it, but that’s the only way I’m going to catch up to the skill level of my ‘peers’. As a neurotic, I have a very pronounced voice of self doubt and loathing (I call him “Asshole Wes”), questioning every aspect of my life and telling me at every oppourtunity how much of a failure I am. Normally this is not a good thing and I tend to lock “Asshole Wes” up in a corner of my mind and ignore him.

But in creative matters I have found having a voice of doubt to be helpful. Provided I keep him on a leash Asshole Wes has provided me with some interesting insights and dialogs that I have even turned into stories and other vignettes. I have not yet given him much opportunity to spout off about my creative works, but as I said, it’s time to throw comfort to the wind.

Now the one issue I will have to deal with when writing “Triptych”, is that I planned it to be a grander story in size and scope that any other before in this series. Problem is that “TFTP” has come very close to the ’size and scope’ that I originally envisioned for Triptych. Now the bar has been raised and I must really buckle down if I’m going to significantly surpass what I have accomplished.

Major Site Updates

I have just done another major overhaul to the back end of HnH (as I am doing slowly with the rest of HTT…). Although very few of these changes are visible, the site structure has been cleaned up and reorganized. Excess files have been diposed of, images have been filed into their own directories, and the HTML has been polished up. Even these behind the scenes changes do worlds of good for the usability of a site.

To celebrate this update I have posted another commentary and have another story not too far behind. I’m writing more now, as I have the desire more than ever to be a writer. Recent events in my life have reorganized my priorities and it was either this or origami.

Turns out when I launched this new log earlier I forgot (despite swearing I did) to upload the new index page so it’s been sitting with broken links.

Anyways, on to happier things. I’m in the late stages of writing “Tears For The Past”. Can’t promise a due date but I’m working like hell on it. I have one more difficult scene to write then I should fly through the rest.

Return Of The Firefly

Don’t worry, I’ve already hurt myself for that title.

Happy news, after a loooooooong abscence I have returned with another story. “Class Of ‘83″ is kind of a prolouge to the story “Tears For The Past”. In fact, it originally WAS the prolouge, but I decided that it stood on it’s own well enough to be it’s own story.

It also cut down on the size of TFTP by about 2852 words. TFTP will be long enough on it’s own, and might even be a two parter. Hopefully soon I’ll have TFTP posted and I can start work on “Triptych”, a three-part story that will dwarf all the others (hopefully) in size, quality, and the scope of events therein. It will be the final story in this arc “Foundations Of Sand” and the last story to appear on this website except “First Night”, a sneak preview of the “Vigilante” arc that will follow.

But for now, please enjoy “Class of ‘83″.

It’s good to be back.

Change is…

Just announcing that ‘Firefly’ has changed it’s name to ‘Hotaru no Hikari’ which translates to “The Glow of a Firefly”.

Firefly started as only a working title. I decided that sooner or later I would think up a cooler title. Then after a while it grew on me and it stuck as the title. Then a few years ago some guy decided he was going to be cute and call his new television program ‘Firefly’, because that was the name of the ship they cruised around in. And since he was more famous than me, he got to make it his official title first.

So after that I was forced to once again start considering new titles but left the working title in place till now. I really don’t perceive too many other conflicts with any other aspects of the series, but hopefully I can catch any others before I get sued or something. If any of you find anything, Please (please please please please please please please please please) let me know.

Pulse Check

Well after a while off to play Chrono Cross and do some roleplaying, I’m back in Firefly mode. I’m busy working on ‘Tears for the Past’ now, but to keep things interesting on this site while I do, I have posted a commentary for ‘Mind Games’. Enjoy!

I’m hopefully going to recieve my income tax refund very soon, and when I do I’m sinking a good chunk of it into a used laptop. Then I can work on the final drafts and re-writes wherever I damn well please. As I’m sure I said before, sitting down in front of my computer at home and staying focused is hard. This is a curse many writers and artists are stricken with. It’s just a matter of discipline and compromise. Buying the laptop is compromise. Now I seriously have to work on the discipline thing. Anyone know of any good dominatrixes in the Vancouver area?
